When we met Pastor Noel in Ouanaminthe two years ago, he was running a Restavek (slave) and orphan school with volunteer teachers. It was held in an incredibly delapidated shack. His dream was to give them "one mouth full of food a day." With the help of Ft. Meigs School in Perrysburg, Ohio, we are now feeding them daily, paying the teachers a small stipend, and have moved them into a more suitable secure building.
About 10% of children are Restaveks (slaves) in Haiti. They are sold, given, or taken from their families and treated very poorly by their owners. Very few Restaveks are allowed to attend school. Pastor Noel works very hard to convince owners that it is in their best interest to let us edcuate their slaves.
